Court Orders Repossession of Salameh’s Assets

A Lebanese court Monday ordered the repossession of Central Bank Gov. Riad Salameh’s assets and properties after some lawyers filed a lawsuit against him for allegedly undermining the financial status of the state and other felonies.

The National News Agency reported that Judge Faisal Makki, issued a decision to repossess the shares of Salameh that include a number of properties and assets owned by the governor, including his house in Rabieh.

Makki’s decision was based on a lawsuit for “crimes of undermining the financial status of the state and urging the public to withdraw funds deposited in banks and sell state bonds in addition to job negligence and embezzlement.”

A source told The Daily Star that Salameh can appeal this decision at the court and can claim all his properties and assets once he files this appeal.
