Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday stressed the need to finalize the audit of previous years' accounts so that the 2019 state budget draft can be passed.
The Parliament on Wednesday convened on a legislative session with a 17-item agenda that is mainly aimed at electing five of the Constitutional Council's ten members. The government will appoint the other five members. The elected Constitutional Council members are: Tannous Mechleb, Aouni Ramadan, Akram Baassiri, Antoine Breidi and Riad Abou Ghayda.
Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Wednesday admitted that Lebanon is facing a difficult time as it is trying to reduce its deficit burden, adding that the 2019 budget that his government will approve will make sure not to harm anyone.
