Lebanon Confirms New Coronavirus Case

The patient is identified to be of a Syrian citizenship and is placed in quarantine.

The Health Ministry affirmed that the new type of coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, was detected Thursday in a third case of an Iranian citizen, born in 1943, who entered the country aboard the Iran Air's plane that landed in Beirut on February 24.

According to the ministry’s statement, the man’s condition is stable after being transferred to the Rafik Hariri University Hospital and into quarantine.

Lebanon’s former two cases were linked to a previous flight from Iran that arrived last week carrying 150 passengers.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lebanon restricted trips to countries with coronavirus cases and halted all flights for pilgrims.

Today, Lebanon banned entry to travelers from Iran and coronavirus-hit countries.

At least nine countries in the Middle East currently have the coronavirus.
