Doctors Syndicate Head Calls for Total Lockdown for Two Weeks

Doctors Syndicate Head Sharaf Abou Sharaf on Friday called for Lebanon to go under a complete lockdown for two weeks or even a month so as to relieve the country's troubled health sector, saying that the partial lockdown that was previously imposed in the regions did not give the desired results as the number of virus infections is still increasing.

“The hospital capacity has reached its maximum, namely the intensive care beds,” Sharaf said in a statement.

“The reason behind the surge of the virus is the Lebanese and institutions’ lack of awareness and not abiding to the preventive measures in the public places,” he added.

“The dire economic situation has afflicted everyone, including the medical sector as doctors are working for free and are unable to benefit from their deposits in banks,” he stressed.
