Pompeo Hopes Aoun, Bassil Would Change Direction on Hezbollah

U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo said that the scheduled meetings in his upcoming visit to Lebanon will mainly focus on how the United States can help disconnect from the threat that Iran and Hezbollah present to the Middle Eastern country.

Speaking to the press group accompanying him in his regional tour during which he will visit Kuwait, Jerusalem and Beirut, Pompeo said that he will be meeting with some of Lebanon's spiritual leaders.

Asked how he would disconnect the Lebanese government from its Hezbollah ties, especially that he is going to meet with President Michel Aoun and Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, both of whom helped broker and boost Hezbollah's power role in the government, Pompeo answered: "In my business we talk to a lot of people that we're hoping to change their way."
