More Than 80 Percent of Refugees Want to Return to Syria

More than 80 percent of Syrian refugees in Lebanon want to return to their homeland despite showing great enthusiasm to head to a third country, UNHCR spokesperson, Lisa Abu Khaled, told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

“Since 2011, UNHCR has presented resettlement submissions of 86,500 refugees present in Lebanon, including 74,664 Syrian refugees for 22 resettlement states,” she said, adding that 52,045 Syrians have actually departed to other countries.

Currently, 35 countries are participating in the UNHCR resettlement program, including the U.S., Canada, Australia and north European countries.
