Kataeb MP Elias Hankache on Tuesday slammed the austerity measures planned by the government, notably those affecting the salaries of public servants and military personnel.
"We cannot resort to austerity measures that only apply to the poor and the middle class, without first introducing serious reforms to control waste, especially that the sources of corruption are now well known,” Hankache told Voice of Lebanon radio station.
"What is more important is to rationalize spending, control squandering and holding the corrupt to account."
"It was the officials who made illegal hires before the elections in order to serve political interests. We fear that just like there was random employment, there would be also a random budget based on temporary solutions instead of sustainable ones,” Hankache said.
