Kataeb MP Elias Hankache on Tuesday stressed that the government should preserve the interests of the Lebanese who live inside and outside the country, adding that officials and politicians must not make any statements that jeopardize the expats.
Hankache was commenting, in an interview on Voice of Lebanon radio station, on the recent controversy that a tweet posted by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil had caused.
"It is normal to defend Lebanese workers against any other foreign worker, whether Syrian, Palestinian, French, Saudi, Iranian or American. The Lebanese come first. Unfortunately, some people do not understand that the Lebanese interests come first, nor do they understand the meaning of the bond of blood," Bassil tweeted last week.
