Gemayel Offers Lebanese Government Series of Measures to Curb Spread of Coronavirus

“The government has to impose a complete curfew on all the Lebanese citizens except on those who are obliged to go to work or need to buy essential needs,” Gemayel said during a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Saifi.

Gemayel urged people to stay at home, calling them to adhere to the measures issued by the government.

“Home quarantine is a must. Don’t leave your houses unless it is necessary or else we will be causing the death of many people,” he added.

Gemayel called on the Interior ministry to be strict with the implementation of the Cabinet decisions, saying that preventive measures should be taken on all the Lebanese territories including Syrian and Palestinian refugee camps so as limit the spread of the virus.

The Kataeb leader also stressed the need for every district to have at least one hospital to treat patients who are infected with coronavirus, saying that they should also provide the virus tests for free.

“Tax exemptions on all imported sterilization tools and on used materials should be adopted so as to produce these materials locally”, he said, calling the Finance Ministry to exempt the drivers and public buses from the traffic fee for the year 2020.

Gemayel stressed the need to support all schools and universities to help them postpone the due payments, calling for work with the educational institutions to facilitate the completion of the academic year for students.

The Kataeb leader also called on the Communications ministry to reduce the cost of the internet by Ogero as well as the mobile companies by 50% so as people can work from home.

Gemayel praised the efforts exerted by the Lebanese medical staff, doctors, nurses and Red Cross in fighting the coronavirus, thanking them for their ongoing hard work in trying to protect the citizens ‘lives.
