Gemayel Calls for a Dialogue That Would Meet People's Needs, Help Launch an Economic Plan

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Tuesday stressed that the national dialogue scheduled to be held in Baabda Palace on Thursday does not address the current crises Lebanon is going through, calling on President Michel Aoun for a meeting that would tackle the Lebanese’ needs and demands.

“We seek a dialogue that would tackle the implementation of an economic rescue plan, holding early parliamentary elections and forming an independent government,” Gemayel said following a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Saifi.

“Let the meeting focus on the issue of restoring the country’s sovereignty, the re-emergence of power and the rejection of any military system outside the framework of the State, ”he added, voicing the party’s readiness to attend any sort of meetings that would treat these problems and help the Lebanese overcome the osbatcles they are daily facing.

Gemayel stressed that the duty and the responsibility of every official today must focus on addressing this exceptional and historical crisis the country is going through, saying that the Lebanese people haven’t witnessed such phase since the famine era.

“People are suffering, and they are no longer capable of securing food with the decrease in the purchasing power of citizens,” he said, pointing out that the exchange rate has reflected on the prices of all goods with no exception.

“The Lebanese citizen is facing a very tough phase and none of the officials really care about the situation,” he added.

The Kataeb leader accused the authority of turning the country into a Police State, saying that all they do is trying to keep people’s mouths shut and exert the freedoms suppression policy.

“The Lebanese people search for stability and their goal is to develop the country not to witness scenes of violence,” he said.

“The only solution we have today is to resort to the International Monetary Funds which I’m not quite sure how seriously they take us,” he pointed out.

Gemayel affirmed that Hezbollah is the one ordering the government not to close any of the illegal smuggling borders, affirming that the Lebanese army knows every country crossings.
