Kataeb MP Elias Hankache on Thursday accused every responsible minister, director and manager at Beirut’s port of the blast that has rocked the city on Tuesday, calling for an international investigation that would clarify facts and hold the perpetrators accountable.
“The authority’s indiscretion, randomness and failure in dealing with many issues in the country are the reasons behind Beirut’s explosion,” Hankache told Watan TV.
“We don’t want to wait for five days for an investigation committee to be formed,” he said, voicing doubt of any committee composed of this authority’s members.
Hankache stressed that there are two theories that have led to the port’s explosion, holding every official accountable for the all the people who have died.
“The first theory is that the material was stored in a sub-standard manner over 6 years in the warehouse number 12 and that is considered as a direct negligence,” he pointed out.
“The second theory talks about missile strikes launched from aggressive aircraft or a planned detonation near the warehouse and could be a remote explosion that has led to this national disaster,” he added.
