Kataeb Party Says No Point of Having Lawmakers in a Parliament That Is Unable to Convene

The Kataeb party on Tuesday slammed the current ruling authority for ruining many initiatives and opportunities that could have saved Lebanon from any potential collapse, calling for holding early parliamentary elections and forming an independent government of specialists.

“What’s the point of having lawmakers in a Parliament that no longer represents the Lebanese and is even unable to convene?” read a statement issued by the Kataeb Political Bureau's weekly meeting that was held online.

The party deemed the Interior Ministry’s decision to isolate some of the Lebanese towns and villages to curb the spread of coronavirus as a decision that lacks clear criteria, stressing that it has created a state of public discontent and chaos in commitment and the implementation.

“The negligence and the failure in supplying the governmental and private hospitals remains ongoing as well as the raise in the exchange rate which leaves the Lebanese to their fate,” the statement added.

The Kataeb party deemed the cargo of oil that was found on the Lebanese shores and intended to be smuggled into Syria as a scandal and a final notice to the authority to control its borders, stressing that such thing enforces Lebanon the consequences of violating the Caesar Act imposed on Syria.
