Prosecutor's Bodyguard Arrested on Corruption Charges

A member of the security team of Public Prosecutor Samir Hammoud was arrested on Friday on corruption charges.

The detainee, a General Security member, is accused of receiving bribes in exchanges of favors.

Last month, Judge Hani Hajjar, the government's assistant commissioner to the Military Court, pressed charges against eight civilians and two security forces members for obstructing justice, tampering with judicial files, as well as receiving and paying bribes.

One of the arrested suspects is State Security officer H.J., who served as a bodyguard to Mount Lebanon Prosecutor Ghada Aoun.

Another military personnel has been identified as J.S. who mediated between security forces and wanted fugitives in order to protect those from arrest and legal prosecution.
