Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Thursday slammed the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to Lebanon. “They control the Lebanese political decision and they admit that they have an army in Lebanon, and then they visit the country like an inspection tour of the new political sites and military bases in Lebanon,” Gemayel wrote on Twitter.
A power cut forced a delay on Monday to the start of a Lebanese parliamentary session that is scheduled to discuss the new cabinet's policy programme and hold a vote of confidence.
Speaker Nabih Berri said Thursday Parliament was ready to lift the immunity of its members in order allow for questioning over last year's port blast in Beirut. The massive explosion last August killed over 200 people, injured thousands and destroyed large parts of the city. Nearly a year later, however, no top officials have been questioned over the disaster, angering many Lebanese.
