President Michel Aoun on Thursday affirmed that the deadly clashes that took place in Aley during the weekend are predetermined and must not be repeated.
“The Lebanese people’s liberty, especially that of lawmakers and ministers, to roam around towns should be safeguarded,” Aoun said following a meeting with different religious head figures at the Baabda Palace.
“The Mountain reconciliation is unwavering and no one should question that. The restraining language should not prevail once again and we do not wish that Lebanon turns into a country of cantons in the light of what is happening in the area,” the President stated.
“The measures taken by the Higher Defense Council last Monday will be enforced and the issued statement is a message for everyone,” he noted, stressing that the perpetrators will be referred to the judiciary so that justice runs its course.
