Resigned Kataeb lawmaker Elias Hankache on Monday renewed his call to receive a copy of the documents that shows the exceptional decision to expand the Jdeideh landfill by 40,000 meters.
“Such decision is considered as a continuation to the crime that has earlier begun after we repeatedly have heard false promises that within 4 years, sorting and processing centers will be established,” Hankache told Voice of Lebanon radio station.
“They are committing the ugliest crime by exposing the region’s citizens to the worst stage of diseases and epidemics humanity is currently going through,” he said.
“Again, they are throwing waste without any treatment or respect for the international standards,” he added.
Hankache stressed that they are waiting to receive the decision to study it, saying that it will be directly referred to the Lebanese or the International Judiciary since Lebanon has signed a number of treaties such as the Barcelona Agreement.
“We have nothing but to confront with the International judiciary if the Lebanese Judiciary will fail in properly addressing this issue,” he added.
“All perpetrators involved in the waste management file should be held accountable now or in the future,” he pointed out.
