This week promises to be decisive to determine whether all hurdles have been overcome, clearing the way for the announcement of a proposed Cabinet lineup of 24 nonpartisan specialists desperately demanded by the international community to enact reforms and rescue the crises-hit country.
A political source said Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati would only visit Baabda Palace to announce the formation of a new government after all remaining obstacles had been resolved.
“A date for Mikati's visit to Baabda Palace depended on an agreement on a final Cabinet formula and setting a date for the announcement of the new government,” the source familiar with the matter told The Daily Star Tuesday.
